Forever Colours Children’s Hospice knows that play is the way in which children lean and develop, it is where they can make sense of the world around them, it helps children to express themselves, explore their thoughts and feelings, and make sense of their life experiences.

Play is a natural activity of learning, exploration and communication for children. Understandably play is something that gets forgotten about and put at the bottom of the list of a busy day of tasks. Here at Forever Colours Children’s Hospice we recognise the importance of play and how vital it is to our children.

We believe that though holistic play and creative therapy we can support children with life limited or life threatened conditions and their siblings and family, addressing all of their emotional, social and practical needs as well as supporting the child’s development – helping to shape key social, creative, language, emotional, cognitive and physical processes. The main aim of a play session within the hospice is to equip children with adaptive behaviours and better coping mechanisms for everyday life.

Our Director of Holistic Services has 20 years’ experience of working with children and offers children a safe and comfortable space in which the children can be themselves and have the emotional support to express their feelings freely. The highly effective play sessions support children to ‘play out’ what they may find difficult to put into words. These feelings can then be explored and contained in a healthy way with the help of a play specialist in order to promote resilience and confidence within each child.
