Forever Colours is a family focused, community-based children’s hospice in Buckinghamshire. We provide care to families who have babies, children and young people with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions or profound and multiple learning disabilities.

Our team offers a variety of services including respite care, advocacy, sibling and parent support, one-to-one help, group days out, post-death and end of life care. However, what makes us different is the personal energy and attention to detail that we bring to our work. We always focus on the child and wrap our holistic services around the family.

Children's hospice in Buckinghamshire

Having launched in 2018, we currently work within the community across Buckinghamshire. We chose to start Forever Colours in this part of South East England because we wanted to provide support where it was needed the most. Research showed a profound need in the area.

We began by offering respite care. However, we believe that listening and continuing to develop the support that we offer is essential. After all, our purpose is to help individuals and individual families, making sure that they have the help they need when they need it.

With that in mind, as we got to know the community, we found a need for additional services like advocacy and help for families where children have a profound and multiple learning disability (PMLD). So, we widened our scope to include those as well.

COVID-19 information

All of our carers are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and take lateral flow tests before any interaction with our patients and their families.

Advocacy

How can we help make things easier for you?

We understand that the world of care can be complicated and frustrating for many families, not only with the amount of forms and applications to be completed for basic support, but also not knowing who to speak to to get help.

With our knowledge and expertise, we help parents with these types of tasks and will take on the admin on their behalf. Our connections with organisations and networks in the local area allow us to expedite conversations and discussions that may have stalled or not even started.

Our family liaison team also provide emotional support to our parents, with regular communication, meet-ups and act as a bridge between the charity and family.

    Play. Learn. Heal.

Forever Colours Children’s Hospice knows that play is the way in which children lean and develop, it is where they can make sense of the world around them, it helps children to express themselves, explore their thoughts and feelings, and make sense of their life experiences.

Play is a natural activity of learning, exploration and communication for children. The team at Forever Colours recognises the importance of play and how vital it is to our children, but understand it can be something that gets de-prioritised for our families in their busy days.

Our play sessions aim to equip children with adaptive behaviours and better coping mechanisms for everyday life, and  promote resilience and confidence within each child. Not only does this type of therapy address emotional, social and practical needs it also supports the child’s development – helping to shape key emotional, cognitive and physical processes.

The team has over 20 years experience working with children and offer children a safe and comfortable space in which the children can be themselves and express their feelings freely. The play sessions have been highly effective in supporting  children to ‘play out’ what they may find difficult to put into words, which in turn helps support the whole family and their communication.

      Sibling Support

      Everyone in the family matters

Through no fault of their own, children with siblings who have complex needs often grow up so much faster than most.

Brothers and sisters of children with complex needs are often overlooked in the world of care, but Forever Colours recognises the need to make them feel special too.

It is no surprise that with a sibling who has a life-limiting or life-threatening condition, care and attention is diverted to their needs, but we want to make sure the whole family is considered as part of our service and model of care.

We host dedicated sibling events and a support group where siblings of children with complex needs can meet up and have fun. Having peers of similar ages that are going through the same things, and who they can identify with, has proven to be very effective in helping them deal with pressures at home.
