A family-focused children’s hospice in Buckinghamshire

Founded in 2018, Forever Colours is a family focused, community-based children’s hospice in Buckinghamshire.

Our objective is to support the emotional and physical wellbeing of babies, children, and young people with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions or profound and multiple learning disabilities.

Our purpose is to provide relief, treatment and care for children from birth to 18 years of age. We also aim to support parents, carers, and families, and provide relief to those who suffer the loss of a child or young person.

Our goal is to support parents, carers and families, and to help children, young people and those around them to achieve the best quality of life individually and together.

We do this through a variety of services including, but not limited to:

Short breaks

One-to-one help
Family days out
Post-death and end of life care

What makes us different?

What makes us different is the energy and attention to detail that we bring to our work. We deliver a high standard of care that’s family oriented and invested in making a difference. We focus on the child and wrap our services around the family. We never forget that the people we work with are at the heart of everything we do, so we make sure we’re always listening to them and their evolving needs.

Children's PMLD and end-of-life services in Buckinghamshire

With that in mind, we began by working in Buckinghamshire. We quickly found that in addition to our planned services, advocacy was much needed by families. So, we introduced family liaison, which helps with everything from filling in forms to finding out which financial aid a family is eligible for. We also found there was an urgent need to help families where children have a profound and multiple learning disability (PMLD), so we widened our scope to include that as well.

We're here for you

At Forever Colours we exist to support individuals and individual families, providing what they need when they need it. That might be support grieving the loss of a baby that never came home, or providing the freedom to have a little fun at a theme park for a day, knowing that someone else is carrying some of the responsibility.

Vicki

I’m Vicki, I have worked with children since I was 16. Now I’m 46 and I’ve loved every minute – and look forward to many more. I have a lovely, caring, messy 19 year-old son who cannot pick up after himself or wash up! My hobbies include walking my naughty Jack Russell dog – his name is Max, and he’s very mischievous and loves to eat socks and chase cats! I also like swimming and yoga. I love chatting to my friends and going to restaurants and cafes!

Laura

Hi I'm Laura, I live with my husband and two boys. My down time is spent enjoying meals out with my husband or curled up with a good book and a chocolate bar. I have been working with children since 1996 when I studied for my Nursery nursing diploma. Over the years I’ve had the pleasure of meeting and caring for lots of different children with a range of abilities and disabilities, and one thing is clear: every child matters. My eldest son was born with a genetic disorder and he has faced many obstacles in his life so far, but he does everything with a smile on his face and we couldn’t be more proud of him.

All of our carers are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and take lateral flow tests before any interaction with our patients and their families.

Our Services

Advocacy

We know how hard it can be managing day-to-day admin tasks. We have a family liaison support team that helps parents navigate the complicated world of form filling and applications, as well as working directly with social workers and local organisations to get things done.

Creative Play

Play is the way in which children learn and develop; where they can make sense of the world around them, learn to express themselves, and explore their thoughts and feelings. Our play and creative therapy services will help your child - and the whole family - address and explore their emotional, social and practical needs.

Sibling Support

Siblings of children with complex needs can often feel like they are missing out, because the attention is not always on them. We offer dedicated sibling support and give them the opportunity to have fun with other children like them.

Volunteering

We rely on a pool of amazing volunteers to help at our events, in the family home, and office support. If you are interested to give back to your local community in the most uplifting way, working with an exciting, new and innovative charity, please get in touch and become part of the team - we'd love to hear from you!

Children's hospice in Buckinghamshire

Having launched in 2018, we currently work within the community across Buckinghamshire. We chose to start Forever Colours in this part of South East England because we wanted to provide support where it was needed the most. Research showed a profound need in the area.

We began by offering respite care. However, we believe that listening and continuing to develop the support that we offer is essential. After all, our purpose is to help individuals and individual families, making sure that they have the help they need when they need it.

With that in mind, as we got to know the community, we found a need for additional services like advocacy and help for families where children have a profound and multiple learning disability (PMLD). So, we widened our scope to include those as well.
